Instinct Raises $1B at $10B: What Personal Agents Mean for Builders

Instinct confirmed a $1B Series C on Monday, September 28, 2026. The round values the company at $10B. Investors named in the TechCrunch report include Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital, and Coatue.

That is a fast jump. Instinct had just announced a fundraise that valued it at $2.5B about a month earlier. The Information reported the new round earlier in September. Instinct's Monday press release made the Series C official.

What Instinct is

Instinct is an invite-only personal AI agent that launched in August 2026. Users talk to it over SMS and texting. There is no mobile app yet.

When you ask it to do something, Instinct uses its own phone number and computer. TechCrunch lists the kinds of jobs it targets: booking travel and restaurants, making purchases, paying bills, canceling subscriptions, research, ordering groceries, and similar chores.

Two newer pieces of the product shape matter for builders:

• Concierge. The agent can place phone calls for appointments at places that do not offer online booking.
• Trusted person network. One person's Instinct agent can coordinate plans with a friend's agent.

That is the personal-agent bet in plain terms: not only chat, but action across channels humans still use.

Why the round is loud

Consumer agents that book, pay, and call sit at the center of this funding cycle. A company that launched invite-only in August is already at a $10B Series C by late September. Sequoia, Benchmark, and Coatue putting money behind that timeline is the signal. Instinct has not shared user counts or growth metrics, so the round is not a public metrics story. It is a capacity and product bet.

Founder Noah Shinn declined interviews alongside the news. Instinct shared a statement attributed to him: the company wants the best personal agent for everyday life, and the funding is meant to bring Instinct to more people.

Meta Muse is the named competition

TechCrunch puts Meta's Muse assistant in the same frame. Muse offers many of the same task features, plus deep hooks into Meta's social products: summarizing Instagram DMs or Facebook Groups, watching Marketplace listings, and more.

Muse has climbed to the top of the U.S. app stores and has been downloaded millions of times, per TechCrunch. Instinct is still SMS-first and invite-only. Different distribution. Same job category.

What builders should take from this

Personal agents that act, not just answer, turn every request into a multi-step loop: tools, retries, phone or browser sessions, and state that has to stay coherent across turns. That shape burns inference and ops capacity even when the product looks simple from the outside.

If you are shipping agent products, the Instinct round is less about a single valuation headline and more about what capital is chasing right now:

1. Action surface. SMS, voice, and browser control beat chat-only demos when the user wants a reservation booked, not a draft reply.
2. Coordination. Agent-to-agent handoffs (Instinct's trusted person network) hint at multi-user workflows, not solo assistants.
3. Capacity before polish. An invite-only, no-app product still raised at $10B. Distribution can lag when investors believe the action loop is real.
4. Privacy is product risk. TechCrunch notes Instinct's early privacy policy drew concern over how much personal data agents need. The policy was updated. Anyone shipping action agents will face the same trust bar.

Keep the claims tight. Instinct has not published user numbers. Treat round size, named investors, product shape, and Muse competition as the sourced story. Build your own cost model for your loops. Do not borrow someone else's valuation as a budget.

The personal-agent race is now a funding race measured in weeks. Builders still have to measure their own loops in dollars per completed task.
